eSIM
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital version of a traditional SIM card that is built directly into a smartphone. It performs the same function as a physical SIM card but does not need to be inserted or removed.
It allows users to connect to a mobile network without using a physical card.
How it works
An eSIM is permanently installed inside the device. Instead of inserting a card, users activate a mobile plan by scanning a QR code or downloading carrier information through the internet.
The smartphone then connects to the mobile network using the stored digital profile.
Why it is important
- It removes the need for a physical SIM card.
- It allows switching between mobile carriers more easily.
- It supports using multiple mobile plans on one device.
- It saves space inside the smartphone.
Simple example
An eSIM works like a virtual SIM card stored inside the phone instead of being placed in a slot.
