Incognito Mode

Incognito Mode (also called Private Browsing) is a browser feature that allows you to browse the internet without saving your activity on your device. When this mode is enabled, the browser does not store browsing history, cookies, or form data after you close the window.

How it works

When you open an incognito window, the browser creates a temporary session. All data from this session is deleted when you close the window. However, your internet provider, employer, or the websites you visit can still see your activity.

What Incognito Mode does and does not do

Incognito Mode:

  • does not save history
  • does not save cookies after closing
  • does not remember logins

Incognito Mode does NOT:

  • hide your IP address
  • make you anonymous online
  • protect from tracking completely

When to use Incognito Mode

  • using a shared computer
  • logging into multiple accounts
  • testing websites
  • avoiding saved searches or history

Simple example

Incognito Mode is like reading a book in a library without leaving your name behind.
